Clydesdale v Dumbreck (start of 1873-74 season)
|CLYDESDALE v. DUMBRECK
(start of 1873-74 season)
CLYDESDALE v. DUMBRECK - A very interesting match was played on Saturday, on the ground of the former, at Kinning Park, and resulted in the favour of the Clydesdale by one goal to nothing. The match was continued for an hour and a half, with much vigour, but the Dumbreck, who played very pluckily throughout, were completely overmatched before the game was brought to a close. It was at one time feared that the game would end in a draw, as was the case on the previous Saturday, time being nearly up and no goal recorded; but a vigorous call by the Clydesdale captain was ably responded to by the combined host, and the ball was landed in front of the Dumbreck fortress by the fine steady dribbling of Taylor, McPherson, J. Wilson, Hendry, and Webster, where the first by a steady shot scored the only goal of the match, the goalkeeper at this time being completely overpowered. The following is a list of the players : - DUMBRECK - Turnbull (captain, goal), Gardner, McNiven, backs; Gibson, Kennedy, half-backs; J. Gibson, Primrose, McNaught, McLeish, Greenslade, and J. Turnbull, forwards. CLYDESDALE - McNab (goal), W. Wilson, Swan, backs; Campbell (captain), McArly, half-backs; Taylor, Hendry, Webster, J. Wilson, McPherson, and Sinclair, forwards.
