Alexander Stevenson died on 27 Jun 1878 in 8 West George Street, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. The death certificate identified Alexander as married to Agnes Rodger, aged 64, employed as Carpet Weaver, and the son of James Stevenson, a Stone mason, and Margaret Young. The informant was James Stevenson his son. There is a record of this birth available although it is mis-indexed as STEVENS instead of STEVENSON. "Alexander - 11th child of James Stevenson, mason, & Margaret his spouse - his 2nd marriage - was born 17 June 1814"

For the census of 1881 there is a record of what I assume to be the widowed Agnes at 5 Fowlds Street, Kilmarnock.

Agnes Stevenson, nee Roger, died on 13 Mar 1888 in 32 McKinlay Street, Glasgow, Lanarkshire. She was identified as aged 74, the widow of Alexander Stevenson, a Carpet weaver, and daughter of Thomas Rodger, a Shoemaker and Helen Thomson. (Both identified as deceased). The informant was Helen Morton her daughter. There is a record of Agnes Roger's birth to Thomas Rodger, a Shoemaker and Helen Thomson on 5 Jan 1813 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire.

James White and Agnes Pollock  Identified as the parents of Margaret White on the 1867 marriage certificate of the aforesaid Margaret.

James White and Agnes Pollock were married on 12 Jun 1829 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. (Note: James was born and lived at Wraes farm - Agnes Pollock had lived at West Raws farm about a mile away as the crow flies since about 1816). James and Agnes are believed to have had the following known children:

For the census of 1841 James and his wife Agnes were living at Wraes farm, Loudon, Ayrshire. However the head of the household was James White, aged 85, who I would assume to be James's father.

Agnes White died on 18 March 1864 at Wraes Farm, Loudon, Ayrshire. On her death certificate she was identified as aged 60, married to James White, a Farmer, and the daughter of Robert Pollock, a Farmer, and Agnes Smith, (both marked as deceased). The informant was James White, widower. There is a record of the marriage of Robert Pollock and Agnes Smith on 2 Jun 1798 in Avondale, Lanarkshire on the LDS site. This is however a user submitted record and I cannot substantiate this.  No record of the birth of Agnes Pollock or any other children to Robert Pollock and Agnes Smith has been found.

James died on 2 Oct 1882 in Wraise Farm, Loudon, Ayrshire. His death certificate identified him as a farmer, the widower of Agnes Pollock. His parents were identified as James White, a farmer and ??????? White, maiden name Morton (both marked deceased), and the informant was Hugh White - son. There is a record of the birth of James to James White and  Grizel Morton on 28 Feb 1802 and his subsequent christening on 8 Mar 1802 in Loudon, Ayrshire.

Third Generation

James Stevenson and Margaret Young   Identified as the parents of Alexander Stevenson on the 1878 death certificate of the aforesaid Alexander.

James was first wed to Mary Cockburn who he married on 6 Jul 1783 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. James and Mary are believed to have had nine known children:

It is assumed that Mary died between the birth of Janet in 1802 and 1811 as on 19 Sep 1811 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire James re-married to Margaret Young. James and Margaret are believed to have had the following known children:

What is assumed to be the couple were recorded in the 1841 census at Braehead, Kilmarnock. This assumption is based on James Stevenson's occupation of "Mason" which matches the occupation of Alexander Stevenson's father given on his later death certificate, and the proximity to the residence of Alexander Stevenson and his family at Braeside - Kilmarnock - 597 Ennumerator's District 21, Page 20

Margt Stevenson 70   Yes

Going by the 1841 census James Stevenson was born in 1756/1761 in Ayrshire and Margaret Young was born in 1766/1771 in Ayrshire.

No obvious record of the couple can be identified in the 1851 census and given their ages it seems reasonable to assume that they died pre 1851 and almost certainly pre the introduction of statutory recording of deaths in 1855.

Thomas Rodger and Helen Thomson  Identified as the parents of Agnes Rodger on the 1888 death certificate of the aforesaid Agnes.

Thomas Rodger, a Shoemaker, married Helen Thomson on 1 Nov 1790 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. Thomas and Helen are believed to have had the following known children:

For the 1841 census Helen was recorded in Kilmarnock but her husband Thomas is not included in the household. The fact that she is also recorded as a "Pauper" would suggest Thomas's possible demise pre 1841.

Again for the 1851 census Helen Thomson was recorded in Kilmarnock. Again she was recorded as a Pauper but with the inclusion of the identification as "widow" confirming Thomas's demise at least prior to 1851.

Hellen Rodger  Head 84 Pauper Kilmarnock, Ayrshire

Helen died on 31 Jan 1855 in West Netherton Street, Kilmarnock. Her death certificate identified her as Ellen Rodger nee Thomson aged 87 and born and lived all her life in Kilmarnock and married to Thomas Rodger, a Shoemaker. Her father was identified as Hugh Thomson, a skinner, but her mother as unknown, and the informant was Alexander Stevenson - son in law. With it being an 1855 record there is the additional information that she was buried St Andrews and her children were listed - John - 61 living; Mary - 57 dead; James - 55 dead; James - 53 living; Janet - 48 dead; Thos - 51 living; Jean - 48 dead; William dead; Helen - 44 living Agnes - 42 living; Jasper - 37 dead. (It looks like the aged for the deceased children are the age they would have been had they survived?)

James White and Grizel Morton  Identified as the parents of James White on the 1882 death certificate of the aforesaid James.

James White married Grizel Morton on 12 Jun 1778 in Loudon, Ayrshire. James and Grizel are believed to have had the following known children:

What is assumed to be James White, father of James White appears in the 1841 census for Wraes farm, aged 85 (and therefore born 1752-1756) and recorded as born in Ayrshire. As Grizel is not included in this census it is reasonable to assume she died sometime pre 1841. This would explain why Hugh White, grandson of James White did not know his the first name of his grandmother when  registering the death in 1882 of his own father James White, as she would have already been dead for a number of years prior to his birth about 1847.

Similarly as James does not appear on the 1851 census for Wraes and given his age it seems reasonable to assume that he died pre 1851 and almost certainly pre the introduction of statutory recording of deaths in 1855

Robert Pollok and Agnes Smith  Identified as the parents of Agnes Pollok on the 1864 death certificate of the aforesaid Agnes.

Robert, a Farmer, married Agnes Smith on 2 Jun 1798 in Avondale, Lanarkshire.  Robert and Agnes are believed to have had the following known children:

For the 1841 census Robert and Agnes were recorded at West Raws Farm, Kilmarnock.  According to Robert's later death certificate it would seem that they had farmed there since 1816.

For the 1851 census Robert was still recorded at Raws farm, although now as a retired. His wife Agnes is not included and taking into account her age it is reasonable to assume that she had died 1841-1851. According to the 1841 census Agnes Smith was born in 1771/1776 in Ayrshire.

Robert died on 23 Jan 1855 in West Raws, Kilmarnock. His death certificate identified him as a Farmer, aged 87, born in Mearns but had in West Raws, Kilmarnock for 39 years and married to Agnes Smith. His parents were not identified, the informant was James Pollock - son. With it being an 1855 record there is the additional information that he was buried St Andrews and his children were listed - Margaret dead; John dead; Agnes 47 living; James 45 living; Grace 43 living; Janet dead; Elizabeth dead; Helen 38 living. It is likely that Robert Pollok was born on 5 Feb 1764 and baptised on 11 Feb 1764 in Neilston, Renfrewshire, with his father being Robert Pollock.
