CHILDREN OF JOHN ROBB & MARY THOMSON

Mary baptised 21 March 1788, Lesmahagow

Nothing known at this moment in time

Thomas baptised 31 March 1790, Lesmahagow

Thomas never married and for the census of 1841 for Carstairs he was living at Sheaffy Knowe in Carstairs parish. The household also includes his brother John and his wife Marion, and a Mary Robb aged 80. Although in 1841 censuses no relationships were given and all ages over 15 were rounded down to the nearest 5, I think it is reasonable to assume this is Mary Robb, nee Thomson as it is reckoned Mary died in 1846.

Janet baptised 15 March 1792, Lesmahagow

Janet Robb was born on 10 March 1792 in Beatons, Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire. She was baptised on 18 March 1792 in Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire. She died on 26 July 1877 in Woodside, Lesmahagow.

Jean married John Bond, a mole catcher, in September 1815 in Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire. (for his marriage John Bond was listed in the OPR as John Bone and also for the record of his first child but is John Bond thereafter)

John and Jean had the following known children:

Agnes baptised 25 December 1795, Lesmahagow

Agnes Robb was born on 16 December 1795 in Beatons, Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire. She was baptised on 25 December 1795 in Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire. She died on 8 May 1879 in Carnwath Rd, Carluke, Lanarkshire.

Agnes married John Henshilwood, a farmer, on 27 October 1818 in Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire.

Agnes and John had two children currently known:

Marion Robb was born on 22 December 1797 in Beatons, Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire. She was baptised on 27 December 1797 in Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire. She died on 20 June 1858 in Dillarburn, Lesmahagow.

John married Marion Stewart on 3 June 1828, in Lesmahagow. Marion Stewart was baptised 9 May 1802 in Lesmahagow the second child of John Stewart and Helen Swan who were married 19 March 1793, Lesmahagow. John and Helen had seven other known children; Margaret baptised 12 March 1795, Lesmahagow, Mary baptised 29 September 1797, Lesmahagow, Helen baptised 27 June 1798, Lesmahagow, Janet baptised 23 December 1808, Lesmahagow, Jean baptised 3 July 1814, Alexander baptised 29 January 1804, Lesmahagow, John, baptised 7 February 1807, Lesmahagow.

John and Marion had the following known children: (for further details see Appendix E.)

For the census of 1841 John was living with his wife Marion in the household of his elder brother Thomas at Sheaffy Knowe in Carstairs parish, so it would seem reasonable to assume therefore that John and Marion moved from Lesmahagow to Carstairs just prior to the 1841 census

For the census of 1851 John was still living at Sheaffy Knowe with his brother although (like his brother) his status seems to have risen to "Farmer of 100 acres" rather than the 1841 prosaic "Agricultural Labourer"! Their family has increased by two - Margaret, baptised 26 February 1843, and Marion, baptised 3 May 1846. Both baptisms recorded in Carstairs Parish.

In October 1855 John and Marion's eldest son John emigrated to America and at some time thereafter, John and Marion also moved along with the rest of the family to Michigan in the U.S. to live with him. For the census of 1870 John and Marion were established on a farm in the township of Lexington, Sanilac, Michigan along with three of their daughters, Mary, Maggie and Marianna (Marion.), and their son James. Their daughter Jane was living with her husband James Jackson on what one would imagine is the next door property as they are listed as the next family on the census return, and their son John Stewart and their daughter Helen (married William Pomeroy) were also recorded in the township on Lexington for this census. The only child unaccounted for is William born 1840. (??? died pre 1855 in Scotland ???)
