William Martin was firstly married to Mary Arkle MacDonald whom he married on 26th May 1839 in Wilton parish.

William and Mary had the following children :

I would assumed that Mary Arkle MacDonald died circa 1847/49

As already refered to Walter married for a second time to Barbara Potts\Young, whom he married on 7th June 1850, in Hawick. After Barbara's death, aged 63, on 11th May 1879, William seems to have married for a third time. His bride this time was an Isabella, maiden name unknown at this time, born circa 1822 in Cavers, Roxburghshire

When or where William Martin died is not known at this time.

The granddaughter, Margaret Hobkirk, in this census was the second eldest child of William Martin's daughter Mary Eliza Martin. She had married John Hobkirk on 31st December 1860 in Hawick. They had at least eight children

For the census of 1881 the family were living in the main Street, in Douglas, Lanarkshire where John Hobkirk was earning a living as teaching of music AND tailoring!
